Meticulous workmanship and a personable approach are the threads running through accounts of Stephen Francis Carpentry & Joinery in Newcastle upon Tyne, a joiner whose door installation, built-in storage and general joinery feature most often in feedback. Customers describe a craftsman who takes his time to get things right, adapting to the quirks of an older property with sloping floors and uneven walls in order to create a fitted bookcase and cabinet. Doors reappear as a core strength: front doors supplied with fresh frames and fanlights, a garage door in hardwood, and a set of twelve internal doors all receive praise, as do replacement staircase spindles and repairs to noisy, unstable stairs.

Stephen is named regularly, with reviewers highlighting his punctuality, courtesy and readiness to talk through the reasoning behind each decision, including advice on finishes, ironmongery and decorative glass. A utility room conversion is singled out, involving studwork, cabinetry for laundry appliances and a sink, with plumbing carried out personally and other trades coordinated so that all arrived on schedule. Additional shelving in a study, kitchen and bathroom, a made-to-measure larder and a pulleymaid are also noted, while neatness, communication throughout and an exacting finish come up repeatedly.
